Israeli War Criminals hoping to evade Justice.
On 04-Dec-2009 a warrant was issued for arrest of Tzipi Livni on war crimes charges relating to the Israeli attacks on Gaza last year. She abandoned her trip, but the (now ex-) UK Foreign Secretary, David Miliband stated that he would try and change the law to prevent such warrants being issued in future. Please write to your MP urging them to prevent this. It is the obligation of the state to prosecute people suspected of war crimes. Please see an example letter from the Exeter branch for ideas on what to write. Also urge the Government to support the UN Goldstone report on war crimes in Gaza. The UK abstained in the vote on this report. If we are ever to rid the world of war crimes it is essential that we pursue war criminals, as Nazi war criminals were pursued in the past.
War Crimes
For an idea of the impact of the attacks on Gaza a year ago, attacks in which Hospitals, Schools and Mosques were destroyed, please read this article in the Guardian. It focuses on the effect on children living through the blitz on Gaza. Phosphorus bombs, banned under the Geneva Convention from use on civilian targets, were even dropped on a UN compound where civilians were sheltering from the onslaught. Another example was the deliberate targeting of a clinic run by Christian Aid.
How can I help?
